Artificial Turfs
Sports are a great way to compete and build fitness. No wonder that one of the largest fan followings in the world are for sports. Among sports, many people really love team sports played on large grounds. Typically for the ease of playing these grounds have a layer of natural turf. This turf lets the players move, run and even fall without the risk of getting injured due to hard ground.
Over the years though, there has been a growing demand for more and more sports activities and also for plays under all conditions and in all seasons. With natural turf, maintaining this was really tough. The natural turf meant that after every uses there would be wear on the ground. Over use will leave the ground barren without any grass.
At the same time, for all season grounds, you really need to have a closed stadium rather than an open air one. This was again a problem as closed stadia meant that natural grass will not get sufficient light to grow properly. All these challenges led to grounds men experimenting with artificial turf.
Artificial turfs, as the name suggests, is made from man made materials but is as effective as natural turf. The artificial turf has fibres coated with silicone embedded in rubber granules over a polypropylene base. These fibre are kept erect with coiled supports. The green color and the soft fibres make these the perfect turfs for turf games, especially in grounds that cannot support natural turfs.
Astro Turf is one of the most common terms associated with artificial turf. While many people believe the that both are the same, Astro turf is in fact a brand name for the company that makes a special kind of turf. Starting in Memorial stadium in Indiana State University, today Astro turf is considered one of the most popular artificial turf brands.
Artificial turfs are great because they really have very limited maintenance. The grass will not die out, the color does not fade and the turf height will not grow. What this means is that you need not garden the ground anymore nor worry about moving it. These are just perfect for indoor as well as outdoor stadium.
Though artificial turfs became popular for sports, they also have a very useful place in domestic use. Many people use artificial turfs in their gardens in their balconies, terrace, etc. These turfs are very easy to install and do not require any watering. Probably a regular dose of vacuuming will keep them going for a long time.
Given that artificial turf is more durable than natural turfs, you can use them longer or use them more frequently. For the grounds men, this translates into huge maintenance savings and more revenue opportunities. By scheduling games more frequently, they can earn more money which is perfect.
There are some concerns with the artificial turfs though. Without soil and natural conditions, these turfs can become breeding grounds of bacteria and other harmful creatures. Hence, these turfs require regular treatments to keep them healthy.
